Umar: The Commander

Umar al-Faruq: the strong man who heard the Qur'an and became Muslim, the friend who raced Abu Bakr in charity, and the caliph who walked out at night, found hungry children crying by a fire, carried flour back to them himself and stayed until they laughed and slept. In Jerusalem he arrives on the simple saddle while his servant rides the camel.

We hope children come away knowing that real strength is justice and humility, that a leader serves, and that the best race is a race in doing good.

Written in fully vowelled Arabic with an English translation under every line. The stories rise in level through the book, so the Arabic grows with your child, and every page pairs a full-colour picture with word cards for the key words.
